Salamanca Arts Centre Quiz Poster June 22 2011

Although Poco People hasn’t officially set up shop yet (our launch date is July 4), I snuck in a quick poster design this week for Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC)‘s upcoming annual quiz and silent auction fundraiser.

Given that we are celebrating 100 years of Australian Antarctic heritage this year, the theme for this year’s quiz is White Out - from Tasmania to Antarctica: 100 years on.

I love both SAC quiz nights and penguins so this was a happy marriage indeed. I whipped down to our friends at Ad Art and sought out textural paper in ‘Aurora Australis orange’. Pretty much the same as asking for ‘Australia Post red’ - it is an instantly recognisable hue for anyone who lives in Hobart.

When you are designing a layout that will be used on both A5 posters and A1 posters, it is best to start off small so that you won’t end up with legibility issues when you reduce your A1 poster down to A5. So I started off with A5, choosing icebergs as an obvious solution to segmenting the various layers of information required for the poster.

The result is a playful, textural design that gets the information across and is adaptable to various different applications like ticketing, signage and receipts.
